Congratulations to Dr. Michael Schuett who teamed with colleagues in Geosciences and was selected as recipient of a Texas A&M Triads for Transformation Grant (T3). Their project will examine air quality and public perceptions of oil and gas development near state and national parks.

Congratulations to Dr. Courtney Suess-Raeisinafchi who teamed with faculty in Public Health and selected as recipient of a Texas A&M Triads for Transformation Grant (T3) from the President’s Excellence Fund. Their project is titledAssessing and Remediating Health and Safety Issues in Children’s Play Spaces in Resort Settings  Our research will determine vulnerabilities in resort construction and investigate microclimates that impact acute health and well-being of children.

Congratulations to Ms. Andrea Wendling. Andrea will graduate December 14 with her degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences. Andrea will also be the Student Commencement Speaker at our 2:00p ceremony on the 14th! She submitted to be chosen and was one of 4 selected to speak at a ceremony from the many who apply. I do not recall ever having one of our students fill this role. I look forward to hearing her address the thousands who will be in attendance along with her fellow graduates.

Congratulations to Dr. Jamie Rae Walker for a successful Dallas PARKing Day Program. Dr. Walker and assistants created a “park” in a car parking space on Main Street in downtown Dallas as a part of the city’s annual program to promote the importance of public space. Several RPTS students contributed ideas.

Congratulations to Dr. Darlene Locke who was presented with the Extraordinary Program Award for Texas at the States’ 4-H International Conference on Nov. 8th. She was also selected as Rookie of the Year.

Congratulations to Dr. John Jacob who will receive the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Extension and Program Specialist. The award will be presented at the 2019 AgriLife Conference on January 7th in College Station.

Congratulations to Mrs. Tina Vega who will receive the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Business and Operational Staff. The award will be presented at the 2019 AgriLife Conference on January 7th.

Congratulations to Mrs. Debe Shafer and her RPTS 321 class as they helped implement the annual Empty Bowls event in Bryan last night. The event raises funds for the local food bank.
