Professional Event Manager Certificate – Accepted After June 1, 2017

About

The Professional Event Management Certificate (PEMC), offered by the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences (RPTS), has been developed to accustom students with the various components of planning, managing, implementing and evaluating meetings and special events.

This program takes at least three semesters to complete.  
Application deadline: 3 full semesters prior to graduation, OR have already taken RPTS 311. It is best to apply as soon as possible in your degree plan, prior to completing classes as there is no guarantee of admission.
This is not a completely online program, some classes are only offered in class. You will not be waived from prerequisite courses. 

Admission Requirements

Currently_Enrolled_in_an_Undergraduate_Degree_Program_at_TAMU
  • If required, have permission from their departmental advisor to apply for the program
  • All TAMU students in any major may apply
  • An overall TAMU GPA of 2.0 or higher is required for acceptance into the PEMC program
  • Must complete the PEMC application and essay
Currently_Enrolled_in_a_Graduate_Degree_Program_at_TAMU

GPA Requirements

  • Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in each PEMC applicable course
  • Must maintain a “B” average (3.0 GPA) in the required courses
  • It is departmental policy for PEMC that you cannot retake RPTS 311, RPTS 320 or RPTS 321

Volunteer Requirements

  • A minimum of 40 hours (unpaid) of service in the conduct of event management and execution
    • At least 10 events with each event volunteering at least 3 hours.
    • No community service will be accepted; e.g., Big Event, Replant.
    • No family/friend events.
  • These hours will be performed after the student is admitted to the PEMC program.
  • Service hour requirements from RPTS 311, RPTS 320 and RPTS 321 may apply.
  • We encourage a variety of events!

Portfolio Requirements

  • You will build a service portfolio as a website. Please find the instructions by clicking here!

Exit Exam

  • Students must pass the exit exam prior to gaining the certificate.
  • The exam will be based on RPTS 311, RPTS 320 and RPTS 321.
  • You can take the exam as many times as you need to until you pass.

Graduation Checklist

The following must be completed in the students final semester/term.

  • Submit grade sheet on eCampus
    • Editable Grade Sheet with drop down menus (requires Adobe Acrobat)
    • Non-editable Grade Sheet (requires you to print, fill it in, and scan to email)
  • Turned in Portfolio and volunteer hours
  • Passed Exit Exam
